Jack Cockrill

Obituary of Jack Cockrill

Husband. Father. Grandpa. Friend. Soldier. Sports Fan. Battler. Jackie Lynn Cockrill was all of these things and more during his 73 colorful years on this planet. He was born in Bonham, Texas, on December 11, 1946. “Jack,” as he was known by family and friends, was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country valiantly on the battlefields of Vietnam. When he returned home, he married his wife and life tag-team partner, Joyce D. Cockrill, and the two set out on a memory-and-love-filled life together that included two children – son Aaron and daughter Amy. Aaron and Amy were incredible sources of pride for Jack throughout his life and they blessed him with countless memories and four beautiful granddaughters. Those memories and grandkids provided Jack with untold joy during his lifetime and were no doubt with him until the day he passed, December 21, following a battle with COPD that featured Jack’s trademark stubbornness. In death, as in life, Jack did it his way. Jack loved Joyce, Aaron, Amy and his granddaughters more than anything in this world. But going to the horse track and watching any sports on TV from his trademark comfy chair were close seconds. He will be missed and loved forever and is survived by Joyce, Aaron and wife Paola, Amy and husband Scott Prusha, four granddaughters, sister June Glenn (of Quinlan, Texas), sister Joan Miller (of Dallas, Texas) and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:15 p.m. Friday. January 24, 2020 at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery with military honors.
