Obituary of Robert Martin Packard
Robert Martin Packard, 95, peacefully went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. Bob was born in Romeo, Colorado on September 15, 1924, to Claude Martin and Carrye Olive Packard who preceded him in death.
Bob and his parents later moved to LaJara, Colorado where he graduated from high school with a class of 19 in May, 1942. Upon graduation he attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins. The war was in full swing and Bob joined the Navy in July, 1944 in Denver, Colorado.
After basic training at Camp Farragut in Coeur de Lane, Idaho, he went to Seattle to Fire Control School and later to Columbia University for Midshipman school. After the Navy, Bob returned to Colorado State University and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Throughout the years, Bob worked for several electrical companies in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, including Dallas Power & Light where he met the love of his life, Jane Aven. Bob and Jane were married on June 18, 1949, at the home of Jane’s parents in Smithfield, Texas. In 1972 they relocated to Houston and Bob worked for Houston Lighting & Power until he retired on September 30, 1989. Bob & Jane remained in Houston until June, 1997 when they moved back to Keller. Bob & Jane travelled extensively as a result of his work with Houston Lighting & Power which they both enjoyed. Bob was a master woodworker and could take a piece of wood and create anything you could think of, he was so talented.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Jane, son David and his wife Jan, son Mark and his wife Connie.
Services to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2019 at Forest Ridge Funeral Home, Memorial Park Chapel with Pastor Randy Phillips officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Bluebonnet Memorial Park, Colleyville.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Forest Ridge Funeral Home, 8525 Mid-Cities Blvd., North Richland Hills, Texas, and will last until service time.
