Obituary of Leland T. Smith

Leland T. Smith, of Euless, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday evening, October 22, 2019.  He was born March 22, 1929 in Hillsboro, Texas to the late Jesse Leland Smith and Vera Mae Beene Smith.

The family moved to Dallas when Leland was seven years old and he attended Dallas Technical High School.  He served three years in the United States Navy.  After being discharged, he met and dated Juanita Fugitt and they were married in July 1950, living in Dallas, Pasadena and Euless.  Leland worked for the Ford Motor Company in Houston and Dallas for several years, and then worked as a sales representative for Sylvania in the lighting division.  He retired from G.T.E. Sylvania after 26 years of service.

Leland was very active at First Baptist Church, Euless, serving as a deacon and on various committees.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mark Gordon Smith; and also by his sister, Molly Dagnell Williams.

Leland is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Juanita L. Smith; his grandson, Cody L. Smith of Lake Worth; his granddaughter, Melissa Powell and her husband, Donnie of Haslet; his great grandson, Cooper Powell of Haslet; his daughter-in-law, Marianne Smith of Watauga; his brother-in-law, Ray Fugitt and his wife, Cherry of Mabank; he is also survived by his niece, Misty Dagnell Robertson and her husband, Joe; and by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Cross City Church, 1000 West Airport Freeway, Euless, Texas 76039, with Rev. Bob Neely officiating.

Inurnment will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with military honors at a later date.
