Obituary of Terry Jackson Higgs
Terry Higgs, born 29 Jun 1939 passed away peacefully at 11:37am on the 24th of August 2019. He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 51 years, Janice, who is still cherished and missed today. Terry was 80 years old.
Terry Jackson Higgs was born in Clyde Texas to Tommy and Jean Higgs. The oldest of 3 sons, Terry grew up in Ft Worth Texas, graduating from Amon Carter Riverside High School in 1957. Like many young men at that time, Terry decided to serve his country, joining the USAF in 1958 serving 8 years, 3 months and 13 days. He separated from active duty in 1966 achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. During those 8 years, Terry was a Loadmaster, working on a wide variety of aircraft, and stationed around the world at bases including Goose Bay Labrador, Newfoundland, and Tachikawa AB, Tokyo Japan. Terry concluded his career while stationed at Andrews AFB, Maryland, where he worked ground crew for the presidential detail. He was always extremely proud of his military service.
After leaving the Military, Terry returned home with his wife and two small children to Ft Worth and joined Braniff International Airlines operating out of Love Field. Terry started humbly on the ramp, throwing bags, but soon rose to the position of Director of Cargo and Sales for Braniff. He traveled extensively with Braniff, setting up operations all over the globe. He loved his job, and his fellow workers at Braniff, and was with them until the company unfortunately ceased operations in 1983. After Braniff Terry worked for numerous companies, always offering his expertise in the area of freight management, until his retirement in the year 2000.
Of course Terry was much more than just a Airman and employee; he was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Coach and Child of God. He and Janice were members of the North Richland Hills Baptist Church and loved their church family.
Terry is survived by his two children, Terri Lynn Lyon, husband Randy. And Todd Steele Higgs, wife Debbie. 4 Grandchildren, Austin, Joel, Hannah, and Caylee. Two younger brothers, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29 from 6 to 8 pm at Forest Ridge Memorial Park Chapel, 8525 Mid Cities Blvd. North Richland Hills, Texas 76182.
A private interment at DFW National Cemetery will happen at a later date.
