Obituary of Carmen L. Singer
Carmen Singer was born August 12, 1917 in Silverton, Colorado, to Robert E. and Louise Hamilton.
Carmen was known to friends and family as “Peggy”; four people knew her birth name was “Carmen.”
Peggy was raised by her grandmother, Margaret Hamilton, and at various times lived with three aunts: Winnie, Gail and Jessie. In 1933 she and her high school sweet heart, Kenneth Jerome Singer, were married. Their union was blest with two children, Shannon Gail and Robert Luman. They established their farm home on the “Ridge” northeast of Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Shannon and Robert attended grade school in the one room country school known as Mumford.
After forty-four years of farming, beginning with the dust storms of the ‘30’s, they sold their farm and moved to Medicine Lodge.
Peggy was a service representative for Southwestern Bell for thirty three years. She was active in 4-H club work with her children. She was past president of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club, a member of Mothers Club; Self-Culture Club and the Medicine Lodge Hospital Auxiliary. She also served as Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Medicine Lodge.
Following Kenneth’s death, Peggy moved from Medicine Lodge to Pratt, Kansas. For the past four years, she has shared her daughter’s home in Watauga, Texas where she has also been a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and her son, Robert.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shannon Gail, grand daughter, Jennifer Eileen, great grandson Parker Neil, and a host of friends and relatives.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will occur in the Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge Kansas.
