Elida Flores

Obituary of Elida Garza Flores

Elida Garza Flores, 87, from Colleyville, Texas gained her angel wings on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. Elida was born on October 5, 1931 in San Benito, Texas. She lost both her parents at an early age and grew up in foster homes. Once of age, she reunited with her brothers and enrolled in nursing school in McAllen, Texas. While on vacation, she was working at the neighborhood candy store when a soldier walked in, introduced himself and revealed that his mother had been writing him letters telling him of this nice young girl. Through these letters, Isaias fell in love with Elida and promised he would marry her one day. He kept his promise. He wrote a letter to Elida’s brother, Pablo Garza, asking for her hand in marriage. While on furlough, Isaias Gonzales Flores proposed and they were married on June 21, 1956. They moved to Kerrville, Texas and had three children. Six and half years later, Isaias was killed in a car accident. Elida remained faithful to Isaias until the day she died. She was a devoted and loving mother, sister and friend who had a strong belief in God, giving him credit for helping her raise her children. She would not start her day until she said her Rosary each morning.

Elida loved using her hands to make handmade gifts for family and friends. She taught herself to crochet and knit. She never met a stranger and she loved sharing her passion for her children. She took pride in their successes and credited God for it all.

Elida is survived by her children: son, Robert Steven Flores [Cynthia] from Comfort, Texas, daughters, Rosa Linda Bradley [Louis] from Colleyville, Texas, and Irma Brothers from Edmond, Oklahoma.

“Your Mother is always with you. She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself. She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well. She’s your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day. She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep, the colors of a rainbow: she is Christmas morning. Your mother lives inside your laughter. She’s the place you came from, your first home, and she’s the map you follow with every step you take. She’s your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate you, not time, not space… not even death.”
