I’m so sorry Lori and Aunt Liz for your loss. Uncle Dud was a sweet gentle man with a wicked sarcastic sense of humor . I never got to know y’all well until I was in my early twenties and moved to the Dallas area for graduate school. And it was such a blessing to me to have aunt Liz/uncle Dud and Lori close by to visit on weekends. They graciously scooped me up and took care of me as if I was their own. That kind of kindness is not something you can ever repay.
My Dad use to tell me how he thought of Dud as his brother, not his brother in law. He loved him as deeply as he loved his brothers. He felt this way because with Uncle Dud, he could truly be himself and there were not many souls on this planet that Dad felt so comfortable with. They were like two peas in a pod - sitting in the recliners, reading their books, happy as a lark to mind their own business while so much noise and chatter went on around them, with an occasional joke being shared between them. It always made me happy to know Dad has someone special to him like Uncle Dud. They rarely saw each other but the bond was always there.

Dud Watts was a man of strength, decency, and courage. We spoke almost every day. These conversations weren’t long but what time we did speak it was comforting to me. Dud always had a way of making you feel better about yourself. He was always optimistic. There wasn't anything wrong in the world, no matter how his personal health was at the moment. It was difficult to find him without a broad smile.
There are things that our memory tucks away in hidden places in our psyche. I have so many memories of Dud. Eating at Richards in Sulphur, or sitting around their dinner table sharing my sister’s gumbo, or comfortably sitting on my front porch watching the day unfold. I will forever cherish my memories of this man.
As the cold winds of reality settle around me, I’m feeling so alone. It is difficult to accept this real life encounter. They say misery loves company. For all those who loved this man and share in his loss, they are my company.

Uncle Dud always had such a calm deamnor and he would love sitting in his chair. When we would visit, dad sat right along side him while all females were chatting it up and being busy. Always have a big hug. When dad was ill, uncle Dud made a few trips so him & Aunt Liz could visit and I know those trips weren't easy but were appreciated. Sweet uncle.

I have many memories of this man. I always thought he was so cool. But my fondest memory and the one that sticks out the most in my memory is when I lived with Aunt Liz and Uncle Dudley in 1986. My heart was broken due to a recent break up, I was in a bad place emotionally and financially and they were kind enough to open their door to me. I was planning on job hunting Monday morning and that weekend Uncle Dudley asked me how I was on money...I told him I was fine, even though my gas tank was on E. That morning while I was still asleep, I heard my bedroom door open ever so slightly and his hand slid a $20 bill on my dresser...he shut the door and never said a word about it. I thanked him later but I don’t think he ever knew how that simple act of kindness made my day. May you Rest In Peace Uncle Dudley your memory will always be alive in my heart. To Lori and Aunt Liz, I say stay strong, you have much to be proud of in this man you both love so much.
