Obituary of John Tabor Wheat, Jr.

Master Gunnery Sergeant USMC/Doctor John Tabor Wheat Jr.

June 20, 1947 – May 20, 2019

John spent his life in service to his lord and savior, his precious family, and his country. John and his wife, Terrie Wheat met 53 years ago on the beach in Galveston, Texas.

They parted ways; however, they kept in touch but did not see each other for four years.  After many letters and a postal proposal, they both ran away and eloped.

Though they were told it would never last, the couple renewed their vows on their 49th wedding anniversary (as John had promised) proving that nothing, not even cancer, could come between their love.

John devoted his life to serving his country for 22 and a half years in the United States Marines Corps retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.  John served and preached for his God for 48 years, acquiring a doctorate in theology.

John pastored his own church, By Faith Baptist, for 18 years, saving and loving many souls.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Tabor Wheat Sr.; Mother, Frances Robinson Wheat.  Sister, Betty Baley, and nephew, Andy Baley.

John is survived by his loving wife, Terrie Ann Wheat.  Their two children, Curtis Wheat and his wife, Doris Wheat.  Tiffany Wheat and her fiancé Santos Cupeles.

Grandchildren, Arielle Pivin, John Curtis Wheat, Corporal Katelyn Cardona USMC, with husband Corporal Daniel Cardona USMC.  Aaron Pritchett, Dylan Wheat, Joel Wheat, Christian Pritchett, Brendon Wheat and wife Latressa Wheat.

Great-Grandchildren, Nykolys Wheat, Bastiian Wheat, and Lucian Wheat.

John was extremely loved by many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.

John’s last piece of advice when asked: “As Jesus said, just love people.”
