Obituary of Hortencia Campos Gomez

Funeral Mass for Hortencia Campos Gomez (79) of Watauga will be 10:30a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2019 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.  Visitation will be 5:00 – 700p.m. Wednesday evening.  The Rosary will be recited following visitation.  Hortencia passed away April 2, 2019 at her home in Watauga.  She was born August 5, 1939 to Pedro and Sixta Horta Campos in Del Rio, Texas. Hortencia grew up in Del Rio where she met and married her husband, Santiago Gomez. She always had a kind and loving heart. As a young adult, Hortencia took pride volunteering in the community and her involvement in the church. The Catholic religion and attending mass continued to be an important part of life until her passing. She eventually became a dedicated homemaker who loved and cared for her five children. Hortencia was great at sewing and amazing in the kitchen. She enjoyed watching her soap operas during the day, listening to Tejano music especially Los Tigres Del Norte, and reading the bible in the evenings. As Hortencia grew older, her role evolved into a loving grandmother and great grandmother. She eventually lost her eyesight battling diabetes, but that did not stop her from spending as much time with her family as possible and attending as many family events as she could. Hortencia always greeted her loved ones with a big warm hug, which will always be remembered and cherished. She will truly be missed by all. Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband Santiago Ramos Gomez Jr., sons Agilardo Campos Gomez, Richard Campos Gomez and Emeterio Campos Gomez, daughter Graciela Campos Gomez Sukhewatna, brother Gustavo Campos, sisters Herminia Ramirez and Dolores Maldonado, grandchildren Christopher Sukhewatna, Elizabeth Sukhewatna, Christina Sukhewatna, Samuel Sukhewatna, Shannon Sukhewatna and Brandi Gomez and great-grandchildren Andrew, Alyssa, Kofi, Victoria, Paisley, Jayc, and Kade.  Hortencia is preceded in death by her parents, son Samuel Campos Gomez, brothers Pedro Campos Jr. and Thomas Campos, and sister Maria Martinez.
