Obituary of Jimmie Valda Wofford
Jimmie Wofford, 80, passed away Tuesday February 5, 2019.
Graveside service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday the 13th of February at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas.
Visitation Tuesday evening 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Forest Ridge Funeral Home, 8525 Mid Cities Blvd, North Richland Hills, TX 76182.
Jimmie was born June 20, 1938 in Dallas,Texas to George & Lareda Mann Minton.
Jimmie (Mom) was mom to everyone. She really knew the meaning of love and accepted everyone unconditionally. If we learned one thing from her, and we really learned a lot, it was that God made everyone differently. She taught us to see the good side of people and not focus on the negatives or things that we didn’t agree with, or like. She found a way to befriend everyone that she crossed paths with in life. The old, the young; race and social status did not matter. Her work ethic and drive to be independent and successful is a legacy and example for all to follow. While she married three times, the love of her life were her children (and grandchildren). She sacrificed anything and everything to make sure that her children would be taken care of in life. While mom grew up poor and without much money, she left this world to be with Jesus a wealthy woman, rich with love and friendships. Mom lived life as a celebration and cherished each and every relationship she was a part of in her time here on earth. She will be welcomed by her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Mom’s words are clear now and she is walking again, dancing, and singing with her angels. Yes, her cherished angels. We find peace, knowing that she is no longer in pain. Mom is alive and her spirit lives in all of us today. We will see her again. In a perfect body and in a perfect place. Heaven awaits. We Love You Mom and God Bless!
In addition to working full time her entire life, raising children, she spent many years contributing endless hours devoted the development of youth soccer not just in the area but in the United States. She is a Member of the North Texas Soccer Hall of Fame and she in the United States Youth Soccer Association Hall of Fame as a Founding Member. She had many accomplishments in the soccer community, but the ones she was most proud of was fighting for the girl’s rules, options, opportunities and exposure be the same as the boys and she was proud to be the first female licensed referee for US Soccer (formerly the United States Soccer Federation) as well as the first and only Women’s commissioner for US Soccer.
Jimmie is the widow of Clinton Wofford Jr. and survived by her children Joe & Elizabeth Smith, JeriLin & Robert,Jackson, John and Dania Smith, Jim & Jana Smith, JackiLea & Robert Boaz, Justin & Lauren Box, brother Joe Minton; 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
