Obituary of James L. Owens

Jim passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. 

CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be on Wednesday, November 21st at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Colleyville with reception following. 

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance in honor of Chloe E. Metzler www.tsalliance.org, Susan G. Komen in honor of Gina Owens www.komengreaterfortworth.org, or Helping Hands at www.FUMCColleyville.org. 

Jim was born on September 18, 1931 in Bardwell, Texas to James Martin Owens and Alma Lester Owens.  At the age of 12 after the death of his parents, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, the Rev. and Mrs. William Franklin Smith, Sr. of Fort Worth.  He met his wife of 64 years, Virginia “Gina” Bounds Owens at a Methodist Youth event in Wortham, Texas and was active in the Methodist church  for the majority of his life.  He began his life long career in aviation when he joined the Air Force and upon discharge in 1956 he became employed by the Federal Aviation Administration from which he retired in 1987.  He was a licensed private pilot for over 30 years.  He was a devoted and loving husband and family man.  He was known for being an avid golfer, grill master and he had a contagious sense of humor. 

He is survived by his wife Gina; daughter Kim Owens; daughter Stacy Owens Metzler and husband Gary P. Metzler, their children Lily, McLeod “Mac” and Chloe; and daughter Lori Owens French and her children Nick Sneed and Cassy French.  He is also survived by his Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Bill and Frances Bounds, as well as many nieces and nephews.  The family would also like to give a special acknowledgement to Jim and Gina’s wonderful caregiver, Betty Kersh and her husband David.
