Obituary of James "Jim" Richard Andrews
James (Jim) Richard Andrews, age 80 of Bedford, Texas, passed away on October 27, 2018 in Bedford, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at Forest Ridge Funeral Home in North Richland Hills, Texas on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Jason Moore of The Door Church officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, Texas. Visitation will be held at Forest Ridge Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 31st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Jim was born on December 14, 1937 in Moulton, Iowa, as one of five children, to Leon and Ruth Andrews. He attended Moulton High School and graduated in 1955. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Bassett, on May 19, 1956 and began a life as a man dedicated to his family.
Although Jim never had the opportunity to attend college, he was an extremely bright, hard-working man and spent the early years of his career working his way through the ranks with companies such as Link Belt Speeder and Cleveland Cap Screw. In 1965, Jim landed a position as Customer Service Manager with Turner Microphone and thus, began his longtime career in the electronic sales industry. He held distinguished positions such as Marketing Manager for Turner Microphone (Conrac Corporation), Vice President and General Manager of CB Radio and Marine Divisions of American Radio Corporation, Executive Vice President for Uniden America Corporation and ultimately, he retired in January, 2000 as Executive Vice President for Hutton Communications.
Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed annual trips to The University of Iowa to attend football and basketball games, and he loved the game of golf. For over 50 years, Jim and Bev participated in Square and Round Dancing Clubs and made many great friends along the way. When Jim was not reading a good book or watching a game, his real joy came in spending quality time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly of Bedford, Texas, sons Richard (Wendy) Andrews of Celina, Texas; Rex (Vanessa) Andrews of Farmers Branch, Texas; daughter Rebecca (Tom) Smolik of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Courtney (Joe) Boffeli of Anamosa, Iowa; Randall (Stephanie) Andrews of Bailey, Colorado and Kaitlyn (Jason) Moore of Coppell, Texas; great grandchildren, Avery and Archer Boffeli, Everleigh and Foster Moore and Findlay Andrews; a brother and two sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents Leon and Ruth Andrews and brother, Barry Andrews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his honor.
