Obituary of Agnes Josephine Barrett
In celebration of the life of Agnes Josephine Barrett. Better known as “Jo” to all who knew her and those of us who love her. Born in Dillon, South Carolina to Gladys Bessie Burkett and Albert Wayne Thigpen, Jo was truly such a unique and special woman. She lived her life to the beat of her own drum with such spirit and strong heart. Always smiling and with an “I love you, I said it first.” She loved gardening and growing things. Jo had a special place in her heart for plants and flowers and had the gift of a green thumb. She also loved a bargain, collecting, chunky jewelry, and brightly colored hair. Her hair definitely reflected her personality; different, not afraid to stand out, and special. We will miss her so much. There will never be anyone like Mema, she brought so much love and light to our life. She was such a big, vivid personality. When you met Jo, you remembered it. She never met a stranger and had hugs and smiles for everyone. So many will always remember her with overwhelming and heartfelt love.
Jo is survived by her beloved daughters Karen Rester and son-in law, Jim Rester; Sharen Chatterton and son-in law, Carter Chatterton; her sisters Betty Wilganowski and Katherine Stone; and her 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Edward Barrett and her son Russ Dixon.
