Obituary of John Douglas Buckalew
John Douglas Buckalew, 73, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and friend peacefully joined our Lord in Heaven the evening of Tuesday, August 7, 2018.
SERVICE: A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, August 14 at 10am at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 745 W Pipeline Rd, Hurst. A visitation is scheduled Monday, August 13, 6-8pm at Forest Ridge Funeral Home Memorial Park Chapel, 8525 Mid Cities Blvd, North Richland Hills.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent in John’s name to either Kay Lynn's Pantry of St. Philip Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
John was born March 17, 1945 in New Orleans, LA but spent the majority of his childhood in Arlington, TX. A graduate of Arlington High School and Arlington State College, now UT Arlington, he obtained his BBA in Accounting and went on to earn his Certification in Public Accounting. In 1988, John started his own accounting firm with business partner Cheryl Birkhold where he worked until retirement in 2016. Despite being a man of numbers, his favorite part of the job was making connections and forming relationships with his clients. He was a member of the HEB ISD Education Foundation and a longtime member and Elder at St. Philip Presbyterian Church of Hurst. He loved classic cars, the Peanuts comic strip, road trips to Galveston Island and his grand-puppy Otto.
Preceded in death by his father, Frederick; mother, Mary Ellis; and sister, Mary Ramsey.
SURVIVORS: John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Vickie, and their daughters Kristen and Rebecca; brother William; sister Lizabeth; and many other cherished family members.
