Obituary of Nettie Anne Simpson

Nettie Anne Williams was born on July 24, 1924 in Itasca, TX to Grace Gardner Williams and Wallace Williams.  She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on June 24, 2018, a month shy of her 94th birthday.

 Memorial service will be at Forest Ridge Memorial Park Funeral Home in North Richland Hills, 8525 Mid Cities Blvd, on Friday, June 29, 2018.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-12-noon, with service at 12-noon.  Rev. Ron Etheridge will be performing the service. She will be interred with her husband, Lt. Col. D. G. Simpson at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Anne completed her school years in Itasca graduating salutatorian her senior year.  Upon graduation, she entered Hillsboro Junior College, and then went on to the University of Texas in Austin majoring in speech. During WWII, she volunteered as a clerk at Major’s Field Air Base in Greenville, TX.

Later she met the love of her life, Dudley Guy Simpson, and they married March 22, 1946 in Colorado Springs, CO.  Dud (as he was called) was in the Air Force, which took them to live in Omaha, NE; Aurora, CO; Seattle, WA; Itazuke Air Force Base, Fukuoka, Japan; and Austin, TX while Dud served out his military life.  After 22 years of service, he retired and they settled in Harlingen, TX.  Anne went back to college at Pan American in Edinburg, TX, graduating Suma Cum Laude with a BS in Elementary Education the same year her daughter graduated from high school in May, 1968.  Anne went on to get her Masters in Special Education, and taught in the Harlingen Independent School District for more than 20 years.  After receiving her Masters, she continued as a resource teacher helping children learn to read, which was her passion.

When Anne and Dud both retired from the school district, they built a home in Wimberley, TX where they lived for 13 years.  Anne moved to Bedford, TX after Dud’s death to be closer to her daughter and her family.

Anne belonged to many organizations throughout her life, including the Officer’s Wives Club, the Harlingen Garden Club, The Study Club, the Newcomers Club in Wimberley, Delta Kappa Gamma (Women educators), Kappa Delta Pi (an Honor Society in Education), and various other organizations.

Anne is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dudley Guy Simpson.  Survivors: her sister, Betty Burnett and her husband, Harold of Albuquerque, NM. Children: Michael Simpson of Austin, TX; Pamela Simpson Worley of Euless, TX; grandchildren, Michael Jarrett Phillips,  Stephanie Torianne Peavler, Michael Ingrim Simpson, and Christina Dawn Simpson, and many great-grandchildren.
