Obituary of Sabra Beth Doggett

BEDFORD—Sabra Beth Hester Doggett, 69, passed away on May 31st, 2018 in the presence of her beloved son, Jeff.

Services:  Friday, June 8th at Martin United Methodist Church, Bedford at 1:00 PM.

Memorials: Gifts in Sabra’s memory may be sent to the Sabra Hester Doggett Endowed Scholarship at Texas Wesleyan University, 1201 Wesleyan Street, Fort Worth, 76105, or to the Columbia Falls UMC Doggett Camp Fund at P. O. Box 27 Columbia Falls, MT 59912.

Born on July 25, 1948 in Fort Worth to Jack and Mary Hester, owners of the Zig Zag grocery on the East Side of Fort Worth, Sabra graduated from Eastern Hills High School and Texas Wesleyan University.  She held graduate degrees from the University of North Texas.  In 1970, she married the love of her life, Gordon Doggett, and was blessed with two wonderful sons, Jeffrey and Matthew.

Sabra was a career educator in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford School District, beginning as an elementary school teacher.  She was later a campus administrator and a district-level administrator, serving as language arts coordinator and federal programs coordinator in HEB, where her experience administering a grant caused her to become a tireless advocate for homeless children and their families.

Gordon and Sabra were active in the Bedford community, particularly on the Bedford Historical Committee and with the Old Bedford School.  Sabra has also served on the Bedford Arts Council and has held many positions in her Delta Kappa Gamma organization.  She was an active member at Martin United Methodist Church, where she coordinated the Helping Hands ministry for many years.   In addition to their interest in the local community, Gordon and Sabra had a strong love for all things related to Glacier National Park, where they had worked during summers in their college years.  They cherished spending their summers in the Montana cabin, entertaining their Texas friends in the mountains that they loved.

Preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack, her husband Gordon, and her beloved son Matthew,

Sabra is survived by her son Jeff, his wife Laronna, a niece and nephew, cousins, a large extended family, and a host of friends who will miss her.
